Sunday 13th March saw the launch of our 54th Perry property publication in association with The Sunday Times of Malta. This is Malta’s longest running real estate magazine and true to form it featured a work of art on the front cover, namely in this case by an English artist called Mary Fedden with her oil on board entitled ‘Blue Cart and Donkey, Gozo‘ (1977). The founder and Managing Director of Perry Ltd, Francis Spiteri Paris stated
“We were very fortunate to procure this painting and once again to adorn the 54th edition of the Perry magazine with such an iconic image.”
Mary Fedden OBE, RA, (1915-2012) and her husband (himself a celebrated artist) Julian Trevelyan (1910-1988) first came to Malta in the late fifties. Their many works in the Maltese Islands were inspired by the six visits the couple paid between the late 1950’s to the early 1970’s where they mainly spent their time in Gozo and it’s during this period that Mary Fedden’s style experienced a transformation.
Mary Fedden was born in Bristol and attended Badminton School before moving onto the Slade School of Fine Arts in London from 1932 to 1936. After this, she began to teach painting at the Royal College of Art from 1956 to 1964 where she became the first female tutor and had the privilege of teaching pupils such as David Hockney and Allen Jones.
The Independent (in the UK) described Fedden’s painting style as a “hybrid between still life and a landscape” in an article in 2012. Her now highly acclaimed bold and expressive works of art are said to be influenced by Matisse and Braque although she herself admitted to floating from “influence to influence” including Ben Nicholson and his wife Winifred as well as the Scottish artist Anne Redpath and French painter Henri Hayden.
The Perry magazine has been published uninterruptedly since 1999 and has established an excellent reputation for quality real estate in Malta. This pedigree continues with this new issue which features an abundance of new homes and properties including many that are exclusive to Perry such as ‘The Adelaide‘ on Tower Road, Sliema which is a new block of luxury apartments in a prime location with spectacular sea views.
Complimentary copies of the magazine can be found at each of the Perry branch locations in Sliema, Valletta and St.Julians as well as at the arrivals area at Malta Airport and at our new display in The Westin Hotel in St.Julians.
